Bonnaroo

Well at least a partial list is out now for which bands will be at Bonaroo, you can check it out at Bonnaroo.com. So far there looks to be about equal amounts of bands I know and ones I don’t know by name but there is always the chance I know there music. I am going to try and go this year, I have never before been to a festival and it is something that I have always wanted to do, so cross your fingers for me and wish me goodluck! Anyway I thnk that someone looking to expand there musical taste should definatley check out a festival. Bonaroo is a bit pricey nut there are plenty out there that are not as long or as expensive. Bonaroo is a four day festival JUne 11th -14th inĀ  Manchester, Tennessee. Some of the highlights are: Phish, NIN, Elvis Costello, Beastie Boys, Al Green, Bella Fleck, Moe, and many many more. So hope to see you there and if not think about another this year. Festivals are great for see something new with stuff you already like.

“Weird Al” in Springfield, IL – Illinois State Fair

Weird Al YankovicIf you live in central Illinois and did not atend the Weird Al concert at the Illinois State Fair you should not only be ashamed of yourself but also should be aware that you missed one hell of a show!
Most state fair music events are not usually the biggest stars but, The Illinois State Fair has been very lucky to bring huge stars to the Springfield area for many years and this year the big show to me was the one and only Weird Al Yankovic.

I was not the only fan there that night, as I aproached the Grandstand where the concert was held, there was a line snaking back and forth so long, that I began to wonder if there was a problem at the gate. No, there was no problems, just a bunch of fans waiting to see their star.

Right before the show started a rep. from the Illinois State Fair came on stage and said that Weird Al has asked to fill the lawn, so anybody who wanted could come down to the lawn until it was full, the stadium seating was now alive with people rushing to get closer to Al. I have never seen this done before but everyone loved it, and a lot of people got a better seat just by getting down to the ground level quick enough.

I have never had the honor of attending a Weird Al concert before but this one made a believer out of me. I expected his show to be more, well, I guess I expected it to be the same performance we have all seen on his videos. Not that he does not play the role for almost every song, because he does, but Weird Al throws in some of the funniest short bits, or audio-video clips between his performances, it makes for a wonderful show with absolutely no downtime.

Most stage acts come out on stage, do there thing, then there is a few minutes you are left waiting for the next performance as the performer changes attire and the stage is reset. This is not the case at a Weird Al show. As he goes of stage to regroup for his next performance, he draws the concert goers attention to 2 large screens with some canned “fake” interviews with many of the bands and singers he is ripping off in the first place. These little mini movies were all hilarious and a great break between his songs. And of course there was plenty of Polka Too!
